A movie released almost a week before of International Women’s Day 2020, came out as a package of different emotions from love to resentment that makes it a perfect release on this occasion. A movie by Anubhav Sinha, ‘Thappad’ narrates a story where actually a slap changes everything in the life of a married couple Amrita and Vikram. In an official party at their house when something happened, the husband could not stop himself to slap his wife Amrita in front of the guests in the house. Afterwards, the story revolves around how the wife reacts and eventually fights back for her rights and disrespect that she never deserved.
Tapsee Pannu played this role so thoroughly with her expressions in which she is speaking a lot without uttering a word in many scenes. The character that she played in the movie is a great dancer before her marriage. She loved dancing and could have achieved a lot if she continued that in her future. Instead of that she goes for marriage and ended her dancing career right before that. She decided to fulfil her duties as a housewife and was enjoying it too. Amrita was really excited when they were about to shift in their new house and she was really exhilarated to decorate their new house.
This story is certainly a remarkable question in the society where talking about the #eachforequal and women’s empowerment is still only in the discussions but there is no environment as such that is evidently practising such behaviour. In ‘Thappad’, the couple were having a happy relationship together but at this point of time when he slaps her and wants to take it casually afterwards rise up this question that if this is not regular is it not countable. The question is how to measure ‘how much is too much’. Her husband’s role that is played by Pavail Gulati, Vikram is too competitive in terms of his career and he is facing some office politics in his office which is bothering him the most and in that complexities, he behaved in that way.
When amrita takes this step of fighting back not everyone was in her favour besides her father. With her amazing roles like this, #sheinspiresus a lot. One eminent role of the movie played by Kumud Mishra, the role of her father supports her the most, proves why fathers are the hero in their daughter’s life. He did a commendable job in his role.
