There were not so many categories as it has now. The nominations took place from five categories and that was for Best Movies, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Music Director. At that time there used to be no provision for the nominations and they used to declare the winners right away.

Right from then it made it has made its position as the most prestigious award in the film industry.
The most honoured award of Filmfare is also quite popular because of its design. Because of its design, people also call it Black Lady and every Bollywood artist dreams to hold it. It was designed by N.G. Pansare and also supervised by the Art Director Walt Langhammer from Times of India. Initially, it was a bronze, then transformed into silver and on the 50th year turned into a Golden version. Eventually, the design was transformed into a 3D look to match it with standards of movie-making in India.
Filmfare award is not mended for Hindi Feature Films specifically but it happens in all other parts of India. From Marathi movies to Tamil movies they all organize separate ceremonies for their respective language movies.

Right from its beginning, it has given recognition to the artistic work and equally appreciated the technical excellence required to make a movie.
The nominations were taken from various categories and this time the name of winners did not satisfy the audience that much and that is not so new too. This has been happening for the last many years. Right after the announcement of the winners in different categories, social media got bombarded with different opinions that were certainly not in favour of the results. According to the various opinions given in the different social media platforms, Best lyrics award should have been given to Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Kesari’. Movies like ‘Super 30’ and ‘Kabir Singh’ should have been awarded too. Tweeter is also flooded with the opposing comments for awarding ‘Ananya Panday’ for her debut in ‘Student of The Year’. Besides this, just to show disagreement from the selection, Manoj Muntashir, the lyricist of ‘Kesari’ took a strong stand by not attending the ceremony. ‘Boycott Filmfare’ also became a viral hashtag on social media and getting humungous popularity all over social media.
Looking at the history, this is not the first time when Filmfare came under the controversies for the sorts of judgment they passed. They had their own reasons to not accept the Filmfare Awards at that point of time.
Nominees Who Rejected Filmfare Awards
To get award and recognition for your work and efforts is everyone’s dream. There are numerous award functions that happen every single year to award artists from different genres of Bollywood Hindi movies. Getting selected even as the nominees under any categories is itself a big achievement for any artists yet there have been times when the winners did not accept the award for their own reasons.
Here are the names of the winners who denied to accept the award
- Sonu Nigam for the song ‘Sandese aate hain’, in 1997. His reason was the most humble one as according to him it was not his individual efforts behind the song but the whole team has put their equal efforts.
- Prithviraj Kapoor for the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for ‘Mughal-E-Azam’. He didn’t want to accept the award as the supporting cast in the movie. According to him, he should be awarded as the Best Actor in Lead.
- Kumar Sanu, Lata Mangeshkar in the year 1958. His reason for not accepting this award has always been controversial and no conclusive reason has yet made.
- Vyjanthimala for the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category for ‘Devdas’. The reason for this that she didn’t consider her role as the supporting role but the lead one and she denied to accept it.
- Reena Roy for the’ Best Supporting Actress’ category for ‘Apnapan’, in 1977. She has the same reason to not to accept it as Vyjanthimala had.
- Lata Mangeshkar in 1958 denied accepting the Filmfare award with the weirdest reason ever. She didn’t like the design of the award which is a lady without clothes.
Just like the movies, organizers create all their efforts to make this award function successfully in terms of popularity and entertainment.
